Today was a day for staying close to our accommodation in Carmarthenshire, after the reasonably long drive yesterday and the even longer trip the day before it felt like the best thing to do. So we, my sister and I, headed off to visit the National Botanic Gardens of Wales. Looking at flowers is not exactly my cup of tea, but then its nice to have a change from climbing crumbling stone stairs all day visiting one castle and then the next. Plus a big bonus is a chance for some exercise, much needed after sitting in a small car for a number of days.
The day proved fine but cold so a visit to the large glass dome of the greenhouse was welcome, here there were plants from all over the world including Australia so the smell of Eucalyptus wafted around us while we ate Welsh cakes from the cafe.
The weather continued to stay good, so we spent the afternoon reading books in the sun, with the occasional move to a more sheltered spot necessary as the wind changed direction. Unfortunately i didn’t take any photos, in some respects it was too early in the season and also as the gardens are fairly new the place does not have the feel of a long established garden with all the large plantings one is so used to expect from such a place. The place was still worth a visit though and the green house, with its large single expanse of glass and steel is well worth a look http://www.gardenofwales.org.uk/
